INKJETS
OR LASERS
Before
deciding which printer technology - laser or ink jet suits your
needs best you have to understand the features and limitations of
both the designs.

Inkjet
printers are not all that complicated. Though different
manufacturers have different ways to control the process,
ink jets work by spraying tiny drops of ink on to paper.
The shapes of the print nozzle, the size and the number of
drops and the way the ink is heated vary, but the printing
technology is similar. |
Laser
printer work like a typical photocopier. Light from a
laser draws an image on a photosensitive drum, which takes
on an electirical charge where the laser hits. Plastic
toner particles stick on the charges areas and then
transferred on to the sheet of paper. The paper passes
through the fusers, where heat and pressure melt the toner
on to the surface of the paper. The whole process is very
fast, simple and efficient |

The
design differences between lasers and ink-jets have an
important effect on the cost. Most users focus on purchase
price while shopping ignoring the running cost. A laser
printer will cost you 20 to 30 paise per page for a
typical business letter inclusive of all consumables :
tonner, drums and developer. The same page on the inkjet
averages 40 to 50 paise or more. More over colour printing
is more expensive than black printing though it provides
colourful family fun. Keep in mind that some ink jets have
one colour catridge for three colour i.e:, cyan, magenta,
yellow. In short the Inkjets costs you more per page and
the more you print the more expensive it gets but you have
a wide choice over colour management
On
the other hand in case just letter printing or black
printing is to be done laser come handy reducing the
running cost but takes your advantage over colour. |
